Hiroshi Kobayashi
S(Es) Says
Drawing on Freud’s conception of the Es—the unconscious drive that precedes reason—this exhibition presents Hiroshi Kobayashi’s latest inquiry into abstraction through the lens of psychoanalysis. His Patagraphy method merges algorithmic precision with the fluid contingencies of oil paint, giving form to the unspoken murmurs of instinct and desire. These works gesture toward a poetics of the irrational, forming a visceral prelude to Kobayashi’s forthcoming project, S(Es)graphS(Es)gram, developed during his Forrest Hall residency at UWA, supported by the Minderoo Artist Fund.
