The Fall of Icarus

Michael Camakaris, curated by Liz Nowell The Fall of Icarus is an ambitious new solo exhibition by Michael Camakaris, exploring the cycles of power, collapse, and consequence. Drawing from cultural references such as Greek mythology, the poetry of Sylvia Plath, and Danny Boyle’s sci-fi thriller filmSunshine, this immersive, multi-disciplinary installation dissects the perils of excess and pride in the contemporary moment. At its core is the myth of Icarus—a timeless warning against unchecked arrogance. In his reimagining, Camakaris transforms this allegory into a meditation on the rise and fall of empires, past and present. Through sound, light, video, and sculptural installation,The Fall of Icarus exposes the fragility of economic, environmental, and political systems, revealing the patterns of excess and de-cline that shape our world today.Opening event Saturday 17 May, 3pm–5pm.
