Sutton Gallery

Sutton Gallery represents a highly respected group of contemporary artists from Australia and New Zealand. Established in 1992, the gallery continues to operate from its original location on Brunswick St, Fitzroy, staging a monthly program of solo and group exhibitions.

Sutton Gallery stands on what always was and always will be the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. We respectfully recognise their ancestors and Elders past and present. We acknowledge Aboriginal connection to material and creative practice on these lands for more than 60,000 years.

Wheelchair access can easily be arranged.

Feature

The kimono is more than an artefact and more than clothing. It is a concept artists will make their own

Over 70 fabulous garments of exquisite craftsmanship – some made of silk with gold and silver embroidery and dazzling designs – have been assembled within a context of over 150 paintings, posters, wood block prints, magazines and decorative arts. Although many of the items have never been previously exhibited in Australia, most are now in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, with many specifically acquired for this exhibition.
