Lavendar Bay Society

The Lavender Bay Gallery exhibits a high calibre of paintings and sculpture from both established and emerging artists. Exhibitions change regularly throughout the year ensuring a diverse range of traditional and contemporary works are on show.

Established in 1880 and run by the Royal Art Society of NSW (RAS), the independent not for profit gallery and adjacent art school are located in North Sydney, aiming to promote and encourage appreciation in the visual arts.

Many students have launched their art careers or explored a new hobby through the RAS Art School. There are numerous classes on offer including plein air landscape painting and life drawing.

The kimono is more than an artefact and more than clothing. It is a concept artists will make their own

Over 70 fabulous garments of exquisite craftsmanship – some made of silk with gold and silver embroidery and dazzling designs – have been assembled within a context of over 150 paintings, posters, wood block prints, magazines and decorative arts. Although many of the items have never been previously exhibited in Australia, most are now in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, with many specifically acquired for this exhibition.
