The Night Passes

The Night Passes is a solo exhibition by Fiona Davies that parallels walking in the apparent emptiness of the hospital corridor at night with driving to and from the hospital on a small, dark country road. Both sites of transition. Not somewhere to stay for long. The sounds heard in the night time corridor are layers of unattended alarms, the sound of muffled crying, the sounds of muffled conversations, the sounds of sleep, and the sound of footsteps. Driving on a small country road at night—with the car window down—you can hear the sounds of the tyres on the road, the occasional cry of an animal, the sound of the car reflected by the structures on the roadside in a continuous loop of initiation, reflection, hearing and response.
