Michael Simms and Kirk Page

Staged Theoretical

Staged Theoretical is a collaborative exchange between queer artist Michael Simms and queer First Nations artist Kirk Page in improvisational play to find a shared language during residency at Bundanon. Through political and personal reflection—particularly in questioning the structures surrounding The Voice—a latent dialogue with Arthur Boyd’s ‘Bride’ series emerged, not as a starting point but as a post-realised discovery. Framed by embodied interchange and shared knowledge, the work explores both the unison and the fracturing of codified systems, disrupting colonial and gender binaries.
