Since We’ve Met
Since We’ve Met is a series of faux-naïve figurative paintings that seeks to capture universal moments within romantic relationships. Emerging artist Jackson Taylor is interested in using genre painting to explore the interpersonal aspects of romantic relationships. The paintings present figures in familiar scenarios, a meandering car journey, a shared dinner, a relaxed afternoon in a park, that speak to personal memories for viewers. By deliberately distorting proportions of figures and their environments, Taylor has created a visual language aiming to capture the quintessence of romantic relationships. By seeking out the common rather than the specific, Since We’ve Met offers a reflection on our shared humanity. In considering and honouring quiet moments that shape and define relationships, these paintings act as a homage to the people we love or have loved.
