Igna Hanover
sen mēs tev jau gaidījam (We have been waiting for you for a long time)
Inga Hanover’s work is deeply rooted in her childhood memories of sitting beside her grandmother and mother at the age of six, deconstructing worn clothes, cutting off buttons from used shirts and experimenting with techniques of cross-stitch and knitting; sen mēs tev jau gaidījam investigates the cultural artefacts of the Dainas through complex and layered visual taxonomies that reflect the artists’ own relationship to heritage, history and memory. Borrowing from Latvian symbolic lexicon, the artist animates the spiritual world of the Latvian with autonomy and personality.
