Liminality
Liminality – a tandem exhibition featuring Judi Moss, (paintings) and Fiona Ryan-Clark (ceramic figurative sculptures) explores ‘the space which exists in the in-between’. This space conjures uncertainty and transition, characteristic of a rite of passage, where one is neither fully in their previous state nor fully in their new one.
Moss paints in oil, wax and raw pigments. Her subtle, often abstract landscapes based on the Blue Mountains are both beautiful and evocative, almost meditations on canvas. Ryan-Clark constructs and sculpts clay into figurative, characterful portraits of mythical, mysterious forms. These sculptures seemingly visit from other worlds, occupying the liminal spaces posed by the Australian wilderness and its place in our psyche.
