Grace Wood: A Garden is A Mother

The endless proliferation of images is a consistent fascination for Melbourne-based artist Grace Wood, who primarily works with found images and digital collage to consider how we access and consume culture in the internet age. In A Garden is a Mother, the artist has mined open-source imagery and family archives to create a richly layered installation that weaves elements of mythology, nature and art history with enduring concepts of birth and renewal. Further reinforcing the regenerative role of the mother through the ages and across generations, in this new body of work Wood has incorporated her late grandmother’s sketches, paintings and photographs together with symbols from the origin story of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden.
