Chirriger Kwilla: An Exploration of Noongar Totems

Opening event Friday 5 December, 6pm.

This intergenerational exhibition brings together celebrated Noongar artist Peter Farmer Snr and his son Peter Farmer Jnr, presenting new works on canvas created especially for this show. At its heart are the artists’ deeply personal connections to their ancestral totems, the Chirriger (Blue Wren) and the Kwilla (Great White Shark), alongside the element totem Kaarl (Fire). Totems are guides connecting us to culture, language, and lineage. Through their art, the Farmers invite audiences to reflect on the strength of Noongar identity and its evolving place within contemporary art today. This exhibition is proudly supported by the WA Government’s Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, and Sport (CITS).
