Beyond feeling; the texture of time

Beyond feeling; the texture of time surveys the deeply personal and poetic aesthetic of Australian artist Anne Middleton over a period of thirty-five years. This exhibition encompasses oil paintings from the past, informed by her studies of European painting techniques. Alongside recent innovations in her chosen media, this exhibition explores the macrocosm in sublime detail.

Living on a volcano in South West Victoria, Middleton describes her work as teetering on that mercurial edge that bridges concrete reality with an awareness of the mystery of spirit which resides in all living beings. Her work explores her environment and our connectedness to it through her fascination with textural surfaces – feathers, skin, leaves, hair and petals – defined by the ever-changing enigma of atmosphere.
