Art Screen – Alfred Deakin Place: Liss Fenwick
In alignment with the 2025 Heritage Festival, Art Gallery of Ballarat presents video and photographic works by artist Liss Fenwick. Fenwick was the winner of the Fineman New Photography Prize 2021 at the Ballarat International Foto Biennale and exhibited work last year in London at the Victoria and Albert Museum. They live between Humpty Doo in the Northern Territory and Naarm/Melbourne.
Fenwick’s practice uses audio-visual techniques and visual languages as they critique human-centeredness and eurocentrism. Inspired by discovering a colony of termites chewing through their late father’s belongings, The colony cares for everyone and the photographic series COLONY (Mastotermes Darwiniensis) are a close-up study of the vulnerable and ephemeral nature of books.
