Unfold is a performative drawing installation that explores psychological states, human connectivity and the expression of emotion in spatial and social contexts. The Unfold project has been developed alongside research the artist has undertaken into depression and considers how art might act as a therapy to connect people through their engagement with material.

Consisting of hundreds of metres of hand dyed fabric, this work continues the artist’s use of line in space through tracing contours, the process of binding, and displays of gestural freedom. Presented with a spoken word piece by the psychotherapist Debbie Ford, the installation aims to create a space of social interactions, which are recorded within the material. The poetic wandering of Ford’s voice converges with the lines of Este’s drawings to create a unique form of intimacy made possible through art-making.
