The Taxidermist

Penola based crochet artist Trevor Smith completed a Diploma of Visual Arts in the early 1980s and has exhibited constantly for the past few decades. His quirky and inventive sculptures push the boundaries of crochet in a move from functional items to creative artworks.

The Taxidermist brings together a body of Smith’s work exploring animals, birds, sea creatures, animal dolls and other critters in a quirky take on the preservation and presentation of the natural world. Some appear lifelike, others not so, and the use of colourful embellishment and decoration are common themes.
