the part and the whole
Paula Dunlop is an artist, designer and maker based in Brisbane, Australia. She works across both fine art and fashion, applying time-honoured processes to contemporary forms to produce wearable pieces as well as non-wearable sculpture and other art objects. Dunlop’s upcoming exhibition, the part and the whole, features recent works which draw upon weaving processes to highlight the formal properties of glass beads – their texture, patina and geometric qualities, their pattern and repetition, as well as their ability to be assembled and re-assembled in multitudes of combinations. The works inhabit an interstice between ‘hard’ and ‘soft’, an in-between space, often resembling draped fabric but not entirely malleable.
