Tête-À-Tête & Vis-À-Vis
Angela Brennan is a Ballarat-born artist who has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Australia and internationally for over 30 years. Brennan works predominantly in painterly Abstraction to depict elements of an inner world. Her immersive paintings invite the viewer into her universe: a state of introspection, contemplation and feeling expressed through colour and form. Brennan says of her work, “In the drive to reach something like an equivalence between mimicking objects in the world and producing non-objective forms, I find the pull of abstraction most powerful. I feel like I’m inside and outside the painting at once. The lines and forms become what they will, clashing into other lines, crossing verticals, spilling over into endless painterly possibilities.”
Brennan’s two-room installation will include a new series of large-scale abstract paintings and a sculpture inspired by a 19th-century-style conversation couch owned by the Gallery which she became acquainted with when visiting the Gallery as a teenager.
