Termite Economies (Phase One)
Termite Economies (Phase One) brings to attention research conducted by the CSIRO into termite behaviour. Experiments were undertaken by the government agency in the hope that the behaviour of these insects would assist with the identification of gold deposits and lead to increase efficiency in gold exploration.
Nicholas Mangan takes this research as the outline for a sculptural installation that includes archival documentation and field footage produced by the artist to imagine the possible outcomes leading from this human imposition. His multidisciplinary works disassemble constructed view-points of industry and commerce, illuminating omissions and reordering hierarchies of information. Opening Friday 26 July, 6.30pm.
