Journey Through Life: Artworks by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre Youth Group Members, and Sha Sarwari.
This exhibition was developed by Deakin University Art Gallery through a series of hands-on photography workshops and continuous support to members in developing their distinct artistic practices.
Stories told in this exhibition are heartfelt and personal; they demonstrate the creativity, courage, resourcefulness and resilience of these young artists.
This iteration of the exhibition also features artworks by local artist, Sha Sarwari. Sarwari is an accomplished multidisciplinary visual artist from Afghanistan, whose work is influenced by his personal experience of seeking asylum in Australia and the journey he undertook to become an Australian citizen.
Opening Wednesday 20 March, 6pm–8pm. This is a Deakin University Art Gallery travelling exhibition in partnership with Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Hatch Contemporary Arts Space and Banyule Youth Services. Curated by Vanja Radisic (Deakin University), and Steph Neoh (Banyule Council).
