An annual curated exhibition of work by recent graduates from Melbourne’s major art institutions.
Level 7, Rm 14, 37 Swanston Street Melbourne VIC 3000
“Art is more enjoyable if you look at it hard and long, than if you look at it idly and in passing.”
With a practice spanning three decades, Louise Weaver is well-known for her meticulously crochet-encased animal forms.
At the centre of the exhibition is renowned Dutch artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh’s video work No False Echoes, which deals directly with Dutch colonial history in Indonesia.
In her solo show Extra, Adrienne Doig stitched herself into reproductions of the Bayeux Tapestry. This cheeky act of historical revision highlights the fact that in all propaganda, as in all histories, the officially sanctioned version is never the whole story.
