A Pilgrim’s Palette

A multi-disciplinary artist, Pamela Reid shares her creative journey from a little girl who attended Mass at St Francis’ Church, Melbourne, to a life’s time dream realised when she was accepted for an Artists’ Residency at Arte Studio Ginestralle, Assisi, in 2023.

Home of the Basilica of St Francis, with eight wall gates and 30 churches, Assisi is steeped in Catholicism, abundant with art history. A UNESCO World Heritage town, it is one of the worlds’ most important pilgrimage destinations.

Passionate about the romance from those times of Melbourne’s beautiful old architecture, A Pilgrim’s Palette exhibits recent “urban abstract” sketches where surviving buildings are often squashed into a rising cityscape. Other artworks in the exhibition were created on her recent travels to Europe. Works are in various mediums of pen ink with colour pencil, watercolours and en plein air oil painting, to capture the essence, colours and textures in this lifecycle passage to Assisi.
