A Decade Later: the Pulp Story

Presented to mark the monumental shift in the fabric of Burnie by the closure of the Associated Pulp and Paper Mills Ltd (APPM). APPM began production in 1938 and was particularly important during WWII. In the 1990’s onward a change in markets, industrial troubles, a change of owners, the sale of forests and the particle board mill and the closures of papermakers, hardboard and pulp mills eventually led to the mill’s closure in 2010.
