An overview of contemporary Australian art, Sydney’s The National: New Australian Art 2017 includes crucial works by Indigenous artists, Karla Dickens and Archie Moore.
After traversing England, Scotland, Germany, Canada, Shanghai, the Philippines and an array of Australian towns, modernist painter Ian Fairweather eventually settled on Queensland’s Bribie Island in 1953.
At the centre of the exhibition is renowned Dutch artist Wendelien van Oldenborgh’s video work No False Echoes, which deals directly with Dutch colonial history in Indonesia.
Australian sculptor Bronwyn Oliver (1959-2006) was a quiet overachiever. Her works are displayed in some of the most prominent public spaces around Australia, housed in many private and public collections, and on display inside some of Australia’s most-visited buildings.
