Born in 1983 in Sydney, and now residing in Brooklyn, NYC, Anna Kristensen is most recognised as a painter. However, it is at the crossroad of photography, sculpture and painting that her work tends to sit.
In Woiwurrung language, Yalingwa refers to day, and light. It’s an apt word to title a new initiative between Creative Victoria, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and TarraWarra Museum of Art.
“I used to have a studio on Smith Street in Fitzroy, which I started with Damiano Bertoli, Ricky Swallow and Raafat Ishak. It’s still running today. But after more than 15 years, I moved to Reservoir and needed somewhere closer to home.”
Based on an idea by French philosopher Paul Virilio, EXIT draws on a quarter of a century’s worth of scientific data to vividly animate the world’s hot spots of deforestation, rising seas and mass migration as a result of global warming.
