Even though Chinese-Australian artist Lindy Lee has changed and refined her art practice over time there are certain themes that continually pervade her work.
Like many exhibitions, Telaesthesia began with conversation. “The five artists in this exhibition all shared a studio space for several years until 2012 and we would sit around our kitchen table and talk about what it meant to be painting in a post-digital and post-internet world,” says curator and artist Tony Lloyd.
Vicki Varvaressos had been painting for more than two decades when she first started producing abstract works. “I remember when I first did it,” she says, “it was probably quite shocking!”
For all the apparent difficulties of the collector-dealer-artist business model, there just doesn’t seem like a viable alternative, whatever the scale of the operation.
