Working across video, animation, sculpture, installation and drawing, Mountford’s practice is permeated by pop culture allusions and art history references from modernism onwards, underpinned by ironic and slapstick humour.
“This isn’t actually my studio. It belongs to Adele Mills, and I’m just subletting it for three months while she’s away in America. I’ve had three different studios at Gertrude Contemporary: my own one while I was a studio artist from 2012 to 2014, and two others I’ve subletted for short periods while artists have been away on residencies.”
