Our History Our Heritage
Cowra Prisoner of War Camp 1941–1947.
From 5 August each year, for over 70 years, Japanese and Australian survivors and descendants have gathered in Cowra to commemorate, through memorial services and special events the “Cowra Breakout”, which took place on August 5, 1944. The exhibition Our History Our Heritage will include objects made by POW’s at the Cowra POW Camp including paintings and the restored alter panels originally housed in the Italian Chapel at the Camp. Artist Stephen Copland will be “artist-in-residence” during 2017 to produce a video installation and series of works on paper for the exhibition. Presented by the Cowra Regional Art Gallery.
