Material #01: Concrete
Concrete has enabled the form and density of our urbanising environment, yet perhaps due to its ubiquity and apparent homogeneity it is often overlooked or considered banal. Concrete’s rich history as a material that enables our modern ambitions to be fulfilled through minimal design and architecture is well known, yet the flat concrete foundations on which we construct our built environment quite literally have a different side. Material #01: Concrete, which launches a new series of exhibitions investigating materials, explores the diversity and potential of concrete across all creative fields from the handmade to the industrially manufactured. It brings together architecture, design, art, and jewellery to break the moulds of expectation we often unknowingly hold for the material. This exhibition is part of the Asia Pacific Architecture Forum, an initiative of Architecture Media and the State Library of Queensland.
