Hilarie Mais was born in the UK and lives and works in Sydney. Her abstract constructions and paintings are characterised by a deep interest in the grid and its expressive possibilities. Her work generates subtle visual experiences that are broadened expressively through the highly personalised application of paint which functions to personalise, even ‘feminise’ abstraction.
This exhibition brings together and presents a range of key works by abstractionist Hilarie Mais made over the last decade and is organised and toured by the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, supported by Red Energy.
