799 Elizabeth Street Zetland NSW 2017
Congratulations to Yarra Valley-based artist David Ray who has won the $10,000 biennial Manningham Victorian Ceramic Art Award.
Staged in collaboration with the Magritte Foundation in Belgium, The Revealing Image displays a collection of Magritte’s personal, and largely unseen, photographs and films.
“This isn’t actually my studio. It belongs to Adele Mills, and I’m just subletting it for three months while she’s away in America. I’ve had three different studios at Gertrude Contemporary: my own one while I was a studio artist from 2012 to 2014, and two others I’ve subletted for short periods while artists have been away on residencies.”
“Having a home studio is really good for those spontaneous inspirations that come in the middle of the night. They don’t happen often, but it’s nice to have a space close to home. The only drawback is you can lose track of time.”
