Christopher Charles

Two years before their deadly chemical attack on the Tokyo subway, Japanese doomsday cult Aum Shinrikyo bought a remote pastoral station, 800km north-east of Perth. Perth-born artist Christopher Charles, recently returned after years in Europe, delves into the mystery surrounding the cult’s activities at Banjawarn station in his latest exhibition.

Incorporating found propaganda and artifacts from the site, this exhibition – the artist’s first in Australia – presents a chilling yet fascinating investigation into the psychology behind Aum Shinrikyo and its bizarre practices. Presented in association with Perth International Arts Festival.
