Baines has made an international name for himself via his surreal installations, by putting suited volunteers, cows, musicians (the WASO) etc in the ocean for photo shoots. This is Baines’s 20th year exhibiting as a full-time artist, he’s been a finalist in over 20 art prizes, most notably three times in the Doug Moran National Portrait prize. A recent finalist in the Kennedy Art Prize, his paintings are featured in many private and corporate collections. Baines has a swift and accurate eye, a quirky sense of humour, the ability to rapidly define a moment from which we can create a narrative. His is a unique view, executed with considerable accomplishment and appreciated by a rapidly widening international audience.
