Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait

Amy Winehouse (1983–2011) was a lauded singer, songwriter and fashion icon named “the pre-eminent vocal talent of her generation,” by the BBC. Beyond that, she had a deep relationship with her family and was immensely proud of her Jewish-London roots. Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait is a personal and intimate exhibition which explores Amy Winehouse’s inner world, and the influences that shaped her career and personal life. As well as being a celebration of Winehouse, this exhibition is a reflection of a second-generation Jewish immigrant experience. Her family immigrated from Belarus in the late nineteenth century, and she grew up in a secular and assimilated Jewish environment in the heart of London. Originally curated by the Jewish Museum London with Amy’s brother, Alex and her sister-in-law, Riva, the Winehouse family gave unprecedented access to Amy’s belongings, including her guitar, record collection, and iconic outfits. Following its launch in London in 2013, the exhibition has toured internationally with great success to San Francisco, Vienna, Tel Aviv and Amsterdam. We are pleased to be the only place in Australia to host the Amy Winehouse exhibition, and are excited to share this fantastic show with Amy Winehouse fans.
