Presenting the first solo exhibition in Australia by Argentinian artist Amalia Pica. Pica’s practice often explores communication, misunderstanding, translation and listening. The first chapter of this two-part exhibition includes recently works responding to the artist’s 2014 residency at the Gashaka Gumti National Park in the rainforest of Nigeria. The second chapter will feature newly commissioned works, supported by the Keir Foundation, developed on a residency at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Colorado, USA, in late 2017, where the artist is deepening her understanding of inter-species communication. The project has been developed in partnership with The Power Plant, Toronto, and Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, with the support of the Keir Foundation. In 2019, all three institutions will co-produce an artist’s book focusing on this new trajectory in Pica’s practice.
